Mississippi and Mississippi State are tied for third in The Associated Press college football poll after a wild day of unexpected results brought major changes to the Top 25.

Just about the only thing that didn’t change this week was No. 1: Florida State is still top-ranked, with 35 first-place votes.

Auburn, the only other team in the top six to win, moved up three spots to No. 2 and received 23 first-place votes. Then comes Ole Miss and Mississippi State, in the top five together for the first time after the Rebels beat Alabama and the Bulldogs beat Texas A&M on Saturday.

The Bulldogs received two first-place votes.

The Rebels haven’t been ranked this high since 1970, when they were also No. 3. The Bulldogs have their best ranking ever. Their previous best was No. 7 in 1981.

Baylor rounds out the top five and Notre Dame is No. 6.

$24 Billion for NBA

The league’s new television deal, which will kick in before the 2016-17 season, is expected to lead to major gains in team valuation and player salaries.

The NBA’s impending television deal with ESPN and Turner will be more lucrative than initially expected. The league is expected to announce a whopping nine-year, $24 billion arrangement that’ll kick in before the 2016-17 season, according to Rich Sandomir of the New York Times.

That’s nearly three times as much as the current deal, which runs for $900 million a season and expires in 2016. Under that arrangement, ESPN pays $485 million, while Turner pays $445 million. It’s unclear how the two rights holders will split the pot this time around.

The price was expected to rise given the league’s growing popularity, but this is still a surprise. Previous estimates suggested the new contract would be worth close to $2 billion a season, but these new figures are closer to $3 billion. The league also won’t invite a new rights holder into the proceedings, spurning FOX Sports 1, who were rumored to put in a bid.
